When you’ve looked up in the sky and spotted a plane flying by, maybe you wondered: How in the world does that thing manage to stay up there?And have you ever thought about the dozens of people who help get it up, bring it down and make sure it gets where it’s going without any hiccups? There is one group we must mention here that has done a great deal toward making our Air Force planes successful and that is the AF Support Unit. These are the wonderful people who work in the background to make sure everything runs great. Here, we get a little closer to the vital work they do!
The AFSU is a dedicated team of men and women who are responsible for delivering critical services in support of Air Force capabilities. That means everything from logistics and transportation to what it takes to keep its planes and other equipment in working order. They put a lot of effort into making sure all the right gear is in place and that all the equipment is in perfect order. None of that would be possible without the hard work and dedication of our Airmen.
The AF Support Unit is instrumental to improve the effectiveness of the air force. By being able to babysit the Airmen behind the lines, then that really doesn’t require the majority of the other service Airmen to account for them. This means pilots and critical staff can focus on the business of flying without being concerned about the logistics or maintenance. We owe it all to the AF Support Unit, for they ensure that our Air Force runs as a well-oiled machine, which stays focused on getting our “real” job done.
Though the pilots tend to get the glory, the AF Support Unit members are the unheralded pillar grinders who keep things running like clockwork. Perhaps they're less visible than others, but that doesn't mean their role in Air Force missions is any less critical. Our Air Force wouldn’t be nearly as effective without their work and dedication. It’s important to recognize and honor these unsung heroes who keep the world turning seamlessly.
The Unit's day-to-day operations are grounded in the following values. These are values that resonate with me because of the impact that they have had on my life – values such as teamwork, hard work, focus, and passion. These values are used to enable the AF Support Unit to collaborate effectively as a team in pursuit of a shared objective. They are the pride of the Air Force and they epitomize hard work. Their dedication and labor ensures the operational success of the Air Force.
On a much smaller scale but no less vital, the AF Support Unit contributes to the broader mission set of the Airmen at this location by a crew of logisticians who can be credited in succeeding to get a remote AF Base the much needed supplies to complete a major mission/effort. In the midst of hardship, from the "bad" weather and logistical hurdles), the team showed resolve and they were goal-oriented. Thanks to their efforts, and a reliance on the determination of the delivery team, the shipment made it just in time - meaning the mission was a success.
Then there’s the maintenance team that labored with little rest to fix an aircraft malfunction and get it ready for a vital training mission. Even under enormous presssure and time constraints (as well as numerous technical challenges), the team stayed cool and collaborated to get the job done. Thanks to the trained and experienced specialists and team work, the aircraft was prepared in good quality for the exercise so that the pilots managed to gain the necessary training level.
